Scientific Study on Avalanche Airbags

BiALP, a non-profit association of students and resident physicians dedicated to research in mountain medicine, is currently conducting a scientific study on avalanche airbags to understand the perception of this device and the recommendations of mountain professionals such as ski instructors, mountain guides, and rescue services.

The project aims to address the following questions: Are avalanche airbags recommended and used by experts and rescue services in the Alpine countries? Do they actually have an effectiveness and significance in reducing mortality?

This study follows previous work on avalanche airbags that was already published at the WADEM 2023 International Conference on Emergency and Disaster Medicine. (Link: https://academic.oup.com/jtm/article/30/4/taac133/6812861?login=false).

The collected data will be published in a scientific journal and presented at the 2025 World Congress on Emergency and Disaster Medicine in Tokyo (WADEM), with appropriate credit given to the organizations that contributed to the project.
