The International Courses in Alpine Medicine (DIMM) are held in cooperation with the Alpinärzteschmiede. Registration for the course takes place via the Alpinärzteschmiede website.

Alpine Medicine Seminars

Provision of specialized knowledge by subject-specific experts on the following topics

  • Hypothermia and avalanche medicine (2 hours)
  • Radiation damage to skin and eyes in the mountains (2 hours)
  • Alpine traumatology part 1 (2 hours)
  • Local cold injuries (2 hours)
  • Internal medicine (3 hours)
  • High and extreme altitude medicine (4 hours)
  • High altitude trekking and mountaineering (2 hours)
  • Pre-acclimatization (1 hour)
  • Limits of performance in alpine sports at various altitudes (2 hours)
  • Orthopedic conditions and injuries in mountaineering (2 hours)

Alpine medicine practical exercises

  • Medical emergency care at the accident site
  • Medical care in emergency bivouac
  • Rescue and resuscitation after avalanche burial
  • Survival strategies in alpine terrain
  • Hyperbaric emergency therapy in the field

Alpinistic Training

This consists of teaching knowledge and skills for independent execution of ski, snowboard, or snowshoe tours. Tour planning, snow and avalanche science, orientation in theory and practice in small groups of maximum 6 persons per mountain guide.

The Austrian-German Alpine Medicine training program, recognized worldwide by the UIAA (Union Internationale des Associations d’Alpinisme), ICAR (International Commission for Alpine Rescue), and ISMM (International Society for Mountain Medicine), can be completed once annually with the following qualifications: Diploma in Mountain Medicine and Diploma in Expedition and Wilderness Medicine.
