High-altitude mountaineering course on rock and ice, including a focus on mountain and air rescue medicine

The International Courses in Alpine Medicine (DIMM) are held in cooperation with the Alpinärzteschmiede. Registration for the course takes place via the Alpinärzteschmiede website.

Price: €1,840 excl. accommodation, lift and luggage transport

Alpine medicine seminars

Provision of specialist knowledge by subject-specific expert speakers.

  • Alpinistic fitness criteria from an internal medicine perspective – mountaineering with internal medical pre-existing conditions (2 hours)
  • The tour first-aid kit for the mountaineer and the mountaineering physician (1 hour)
  • Risk management and accident prevention in mountaineering in summer (2 hours)
  • Alpine traumatology, Part 2 (2 hours)
  • Psychology of mountaineering (2 hours)
  • Requirements for the mountain rescue/mountain patrol physician (2 hours)
  • Alpine emergency medicine, terrestrial mountain rescue medicine, lightning injuries (2 hours)
  • Internal medicine emergencies in the mountains (1 hour)
  • Possibilities and limitations of air rescue in the mountains (1 hour)
  • Medical air rescue missions; requirements for the alpine air rescue physician (2 hours)

Practical exercises in alpine medicine

  • Medical first aid at the accident site
  • Crevasse fall, hanging on the rope, loose pulley
  • Terrestrial mountain rescue and evacuation techniques

Mountaineering training

Improving knowledge and skills for easy to moderately difficult mountaineering on rock and ice, with the aim that suitably qualified participants may be able to complete an ascent of medium length (approx. 300 m of elevation gain) up to grade IV in an independent rope team.
