The International Courses in Alpine Medicine (DIMM) are organised in cooperation with the Alpinärzteschmiede. Registration for the course is via the Alpinärzteschmiede website.

Price: €1,840 excl. accommodation

Alpine medicine seminars

Overview lectures on alpine and high-altitude medicine in the following subject areas:

  • Performance physiology in mountaineering and sports medicine (2 hours)
  • Mountaineering fitness criteria from an internal medicine perspective (3 hours)
  • Mountaineering with pre-existing internal medical conditions – the ill person in the mountains (3 hours)
  • Internal medical emergencies in the mountains (1 hour)
  • Fatigue, exhaustion, physiological survival strategies in the mountains (1 hour)
  • Alpine travel medicine (1 hour)
  • Physiology and medicine of moderate, high and extreme altitudes (7 hours)
  • Modern high-altitude mountaineering (2 hours)

Practical alpine medicine exercises

  • Initial care at the accident site
  • Improvised mountain rescue techniques and evacuation in difficult terrain

Mountaineering training

Teaching knowledge and skills in easy to moderately difficult rock climbing by learning and/or improving mountaineering technique and personal ability; for particularly interested and/or capable participants, the aim may be to safely complete an ascent of medium length (approx. 300 m of elevation gain) up to grade IV in an independent rope team.
