Risk Assessment in Alpine Winter Sports

A Survey on Current Trends in the Freeride and Ski Touring Sector

The evolution and changes in alpine winter sports are undeniable. An increasing number of winter sports enthusiasts seek tranquility and challenges away from secured ski slopes, far from well-trodden paths. In recent years, the popularity of alpine off-piste skiing and ski touring has grown exponentially, reflecting a growing interest in these activities. The survey is being conducted by Stephan Maximilian from the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

With this survey, we aim to better understand how various influencing factors such as data availability, equipment standards, climate change, social media, and personal experiences affect the risk assessment and decision-making of winter sports enthusiasts. We are particularly interested in whether and how these aspects have changed in recent years. Your participation is voluntary but highly valuable to us.

It helps to provide a detailed picture of the current safety and risk culture in these sports. All information will be treated anonymously and used exclusively for this study. Completing the questionnaire will take approximately 5-10 minutes.
